What is an IM Injection?

An intramuscular (IM) injection is a technique used to deliver medication deep into the muscles, allowing for quick absorption into the bloodstream. This method is often used for medications that needs to be absorbed rapidly or cannot be taken orally. Muscle tissue has a greater blood supply than subcutaneous tissue, which facilitates faster absorption of the medication.

The process involves cleaning the injection site, followed by the swift insertion of a needle to deliver the medication. The volume injected is a very small volume from less than 1 to 5mL.
